This award is given to athletes who demonstrate a variety of leadership qualities such as: respect from their peers, role models to other youth, productive members of the community, continued education, and achieved a high level of success in the sport(s) of their choice.


HAll of Fame Pic - John Ray MariqJohn Ray Mariq – Played badminton at the Arctic Winter Games and Canada Winter Games.  Graduated High School in 2007. John Ray now works on heavy machinery at the Agnico Eagle gold mine.


LeeAnn Maclean – Played basketball at the 2006 and 2008 Arctic Winter Games.  Graduated High School in 2008.  LeeAnn is now working in Baker Lake as an accountant.


Trent Aksawnee – Played Indoor Soccer at the 2006 and 2008 Arctic Winter Games, as well as 2010 AWG for Basketball.  Trent is now working in Baker Lake as a Tradesman.


Hall of Fame Pic - Paula PiryuaqPaula Piryuaq – Played badminton at the 2006, 2008, 2010 Arctic Winter Games, 2007 Canada Winter Games, 2007 Western Canada Summer Games.  Paula has completed post-secondary education and is now back to working for Qulliq Energy.


Shane_NiegoShane Niego – Played basketball at the 2008 Arctic Winter Games.  Shane graduated High School in 2010 and now works for Peter’s Expediting.


Justine-Killulark1Justine Killulark – Played basketball at the 2004 Arctic Winter Games.  Justine has completed post-secondary education and now works for Qulliq Energy Corporation located in Baker Lake.


Paul_NiegoPaul Niego – Played basketball at the 2008 Arctic Winter Games.  Paul has  worked on and off at the Agnico Eagle gold mine.  He is now back in Baker Lake working for the Hamlet as a driver.


KiahHacheyKiah Hachey – Played indoor soccer at the 2006, 2008, 2010 Arctic Winter Games.  Kiah has completed post-secondary education and now works for Nunavut Tunngavik Inc in Iqaluit. Kiah was also Team Nunavut flag bearer at the 2010 AWG.


VBall-Coaching-Clinic-001_editedSebastien Noah – Played indoor volleyball at the 2008 Arctic Winter Games. Sebastien graduated High School in 2009, and now works various jobs in Baker Lake.


Hall of Fame - April AupaluktuqApril Aupaluktuq – Played basketball at the 2008 Arctic Winter Games.  April graduated High School in 2008 and now works for the Baker Lake Hamlet.


Troy-OwingayakTroy Owingayak – Troy competed in the the 2010 AWG in Soccer for Team Nunavut.  He also competed in the 2012 AWG in Basketball and was the leading scorer in the tournament.  Since graduating High School, Troy now works for Peter’s Expiditing, and has taken on the leadership role with youth as Assistant Coach for the boys basketball team.
